The US Constitution prevents the government from partially extending its powers by separating powers through the creation of a control and balance system. The Confederation establishes three independent, equally significant, but different branches of government. If each unit wished to expand its power, each had to be able to prevent power grabs from other departments.

Different Facets of the United States Government

The three units are executive, legislative, and judicial, competing employing particular abilities that allow them to “test” the different branches and “balance” the administration.

It would be contrary to the Constitution’s purpose and would, therefore, create a system of control and balance. For this purpose, these political systems exist.

  • The Federation
  • The Presidential System
  • The Liberal Democracy
  • The Federal Republic
  • The Constitutional Republic

 The Federation

A federation or a federal State is a political system in which the federal, state, provincial, and state governments balance the legislative power of a nation. The influence of state / regional government is quite vast to the point where within these separate political branches, the central government has little or no leverage over particular domestic issues.

In international and security matters, the central government is more accountable. The United States is a model of a modern union. There is a principal/federal and independent government / regional authority.

The Presidential System

A presidential system is a Republican and democratic regime, where a government leader is overseeing an executive branch that is independent of a legislative branch. In most instances, this Head of State is the President. The U.S. is a federal republic in which, according to its Constitution, the president, Congress, and federal courts share the national government’s constitutional powers.

The Liberal Democracy

Representative democracy is an indirect democracy with the people’s representatives retains control and possesses the power. Liberal democracy is a representative democracy where the law rules to protect individual freedom and possessions. The liberal constitution of democracy describes the state’s democratic governance and nature.

Liberal democracy stresses the division of powers, an independent judiciary, and a control-and-balance structure between government branches. Only in compliance with published and written procedures of the publicly disclosed laws are governmental authorities legally accepted, practiced, and implemented.

The Federal Republic

The federal republic is a constitutional federation of states. At the root of the word, a republic is where, ‘ a country not ruled by a king or queen, but by elected officials and an elected leader (e.g., president). ‘The US is a federal republic.

The State Head is elected in a Republic with federal political systems in which the country splits into autonomous regions or states, but a Central / Federal government chairs the national political system. There is a separation of authority between the federal government and each subdivision’s administration in a federal republic.

While the division of powers is managed differently by each Federal Republic, low security, defense, and monetary policy issues are usually handled on a Federal basis, with topics like infrastructure maintenance and education policy traditionally conducted on a regional or local level.

Nonetheless, opinions differ on which things a federal competence should be concerned, and subdivisions are usually sovereign where there is no competence of the federal government. Therefore, a federal republic is best defined by the central government, having total control over all political aspects of life.

In a formal statutory text, most federal republics codify power division between orders of government.

The Constitutional Republic

Here the people elect a representative to rule over them, following the rules laid down in land law. Most people believe that the US is a democracy, yet in actuality, it is a perfect example of a constitutional republic. US citizens elect a chairperson and other officials, who then rule them under the constitution.

Consider the following constitutional republic interpretation to explore this idea. Pure democracy does not restrict its acts by a constitution while the people elect the leaders.

Nevertheless, in a republic, elected representatives cannot revoke or infringe on other people’s rights. The Commitment of Loyalty, written in 1892 and adopted as the official pledge by Congress in 1942, also refers to the fact that the U.S.A. is a republican government.
